Rep. Hodan Hassan votes in favor of emergency rental assistance

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed House File 1440, which delivers $50 million in emergency rental assistance to the state’s Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program. In the face of skyrocketing evictions and rent increases, the funds would provide emergency rental assistance and other housing support to Minnesotans on the verge of a housing crisis. The bill is authored by Rep. Michael Howard (DFL – Richfield).

Representative Hodan Hassan (DFL – Minneapolis) is a co-author of the legislation and voted to support it.

“Rent prices remain obscenely high, and it’s causing more and more renters to be evicted,” said Rep. Hassan. “We know that most renters across Minnesota are members of the BIPOC community. The devastating impacts of rising rent costs, coupled with COVID protections and resources like additional SNAP benefits expiring will cause families who are barely making ends meet to fall behind on bills. This is an issue of humanity. Every Minnesotan deserves a safe, warm roof over their head, and this funding will keep many families who are in need.”
