Rep. Hodan Hassan responds to Minneapolis light rail shooting
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, following another fatal shooting at the Minneapolis Lake Street light rail station over the weekend, State Representative Hodan Hassan (DFL – Minneapolis) released the following statement:
“Our community is tired of the constant tragedy guns wreak on our neighborhoods. We are tired of living in fear and wondering when and where the next shooting will be. In the legislature, our public safety budget bill will implement and strengthen things like criminal background checks, red flag laws, and gun violence prevention research, and I’m proud of the work we’ve done to pass these measures off the House Floor. These things will help, but there is still so much more work to do. Our country’s gun culture takes lives every single day. Thoughts and prayers will not prevent the next tragedy from happening, but stronger gun laws can. I will continue to fight for the reform we need until my community is safe.”
The light rail station where the shooting took place is in District 62B, which Rep. Hassan represents. One person was killed. Further details of the incident have yet to be released.
