Legislative Update from Rep. Jay Xiong

Saturday, April 1, 2023

Greetings Eastsiders,

Happy April Fools Day! Not to worry, there are no tricks or jokes in this update, just a lot of progress for Minnesota. Here’s an update on what has happening in the community and what we’ve been working on at the Capitol.

Saint Paul Parking Update

On Wednesday, the city of Saint Paul ended its 1-sided winter parking ban. With warmer weather beginning to make its way in, streets are returning to their normal conditions and are finally safe to park on both sides of.

Although the winter parking restriction has ended, it is still possible for Saint Paul to declare a Snow Emergency. For more information about winter parking rules, visit stpaul.gov/snow

With the heavy snowfall and long winter we had this year, you have probably noticed more pot holes on our roads than usual. The city is making its way around to repair these, but if you have sustained damage to your vehicle due to potholes, you can request a reimbursement from the city here.

Claims can be emailed to CityClerk@ci.stpaul.mn.us, faxed to (651) 266-8574, or mailed to:

Workforce Development Budget Bill

As I mentioned last week, the Workforce Development Committee is working on our budget bill, which will invest in strong, equitable opportunities for Minnesotans to achieve economic security. Yesterday, the bill passed out of committee and is now headed to the Floor for a vote. I’m ecstatic about the great work we will get done for Minnesota.

Constituent Corner

While I was busy working on the Workforce Development budget bill this week, I'm glad constituents stopped by and that my Legislative Assistance was able to meet with them on my behalf. Thank you to Curtis Seelen and Jenny Carpenter from AFSCME, Mike Gude who came for Disability Services Day on the Hill, and Ashley with Association of Residential Resources in Minnesota (ARRM) for stopping by!
