Legislative Update

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We’re officially in the home stretch—and things are moving fast here at the Capitol! After jumping back into action this week, the House is in full sprint mode as we work to wrap everything up before our May 19 adjournment. With less than five weeks left in the 2025 session, it’s truly all hands on deck.

With committee work now officially behind us, we’ve entered the main event: floor votes on our omnibus bills. This is where all the behind-the-scenes work, late-night negotiations, and yes, plenty of coffee, finally come together.

Yesterday, our Agriculture Committee passed its omnibus bill off the House floor, and I couldn’t be more proud. I’m so grateful to have worked with my colleagues—on both sides of the aisle—to craft a bill that supports the backbone of our state. We may have our differences, but one thing we all share is a love for good food—and the recognition that it all starts with our farmers. Agriculture connects us, nourishes us, and reminds us of the hard work that goes into every meal.

I had the opportunity to work on several provisions in this bill that I care deeply about, including making sure we have the right funding in place for our elk and wolf depredation accounts, supporting livestock investment grants that promote diversity and innovation in farming, and clarifying crop input regulations to ensure safety and transparency across the board. These are real, practical steps that support our farmers and rural communities.

Looking ahead, we’re scheduled to vote on the Environment Omnibus Bill on Tuesday, May 6, and negotiations are still underway on the Children and Families Omnibus Bill.

I’m so thankful to have had the chance to serve on these incredible committees this year. The collaboration, thoughtful debate, and shared commitment to doing right by Minnesotans has been truly inspiring. It’s a reminder that when we work together, we really can get good things done.

Thank you for your continued support—and for following along on this wild ride. Let’s finish strong and make this session one to remember!

Awesome Visitors at the Capitol!

1

This week, I had the absolute joy of welcoming a group of 6th graders from Mora Elementary to the Capitol, and let me tell you, their energy and curiosity were contagious! It always brightens my week to see young people so eager to learn about our state and the legislative process. From questions about how laws are made to discussions about how they can get involved in the future, these students are the future leaders of Minnesota!

A huge thank you to the Mora Elementary students and their teachers for being such a fun and inspiring group. You’re already making a difference by being engaged and curious about how our government works. Keep asking those great questions, and who knows? Maybe some of you will be joining us at the Capitol again one day—this time as legislators yourselves!

Stay Connected!

As we head into the final few weeks of session, your thoughts, questions, and ideas are more important than ever! These last few weeks are when the real work happens—and your input is what keeps me motivated and focused on what matters most to you. Whether you’re curious about the bills we’re working on or have something else on your mind, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to listen and to work on solutions that reflect your priorities.

You can always connect with me by phone or email at rep.nathan.nelson@house.mn.gov.

It’s truly an honor to represent you at the Capitol, and together, we’re building a brighter future for Minnesota—one idea, one conversation at a time.

Take care, and let's finish strong!

Sincerely,

Representative Nathan Nelson
