Legislative Update

Friday, February 11, 2022

Friends,

Session is back in for this year and I am excited for what is to come. I have co-authored several pieces of legislation since we started that I know will make life better for Minnesotans.

HF2728 is a hot topic.  Minnesota’s Unemployment Insurance Trust was depleted during the pandemic. This bill would pay off the state’s $1.2 billion debt and refill the fund to protect employee benefits. The bill also freezes the tax rate. The Democrats in the Senate tried to come up with an alternative. Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development analyzed their bill and found it would result in SIX years of higher taxes for Minnesotans. This, with a $7.7 billion surplus. Our bill, HF2728 is a better way for Minnesota.

I am also proud to co-author HF2732.

This would require all Minnesotans to have an ID to register and to vote. We require identification to purchase alcohol, to get a job, to buy house or fly on a plane. Why should voting be taken any less seriously?

As always, I love hearing from you and knowing what’s on your mind. I am headed back to the Capitol next week to continue fighting for all of us. We have a lot on the agenda, and I take my commitment as your representative seriously. I look forward to the rest of session.
