Dear neighbors,

I want to invite you to my next town hall! Please join us as we collect donations for Dress for Success Twin Cities.

Town Hall

The legislature is now in many conference committees regarding our budget bills. A conference committee is a group of legislators from the House and Senate who come together to reconcile differences between their respective versions of bills. In Minnesota, these committees are currently addressing a range of important issues, such as education funding, healthcare reform, and tax reform. The goal is to reach mutually beneficial agreements that will improve the lives of all Minnesotans. Although there is still work to be done, the committees are making steady progress and are optimistic about finding common ground.

So far, the House has approved the Legacy, Veterans, Higher Education, and Housing conference committee reports. Many more conference committee reports are yet to be agreed upon, but I look forward to reading the final reports!

Updates

The House has passed Paid Family & Medical Leave! We all deserve to be able to care for ourselves or our loved ones. These last couple of years have made that clearer than ever. Our Paid Family & Medical Leave bill is a model built over a decade of extensive research and is similar to highly successful models that have passed in 11 other states and Washington, DC, plus most of the rest of the world. PFML is not only a common-sense solution but also extremely popular, with 80% of voters supporting it across party lines. To boil it down, this means Minnesotans will have the ability to take time to be with their newborn child, keep themselves healthy if they get sick, or be with a loved one in the final weeks of their life, to name a few circumstances. Therefore, passing this bill this year is extremely important to bring us to a more equitable workforce.

Happy Teacher's Appreciation Week! As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, I am reminded of educators' fantastic impact on our lives. Teachers are more than just instructors; they are mentors, role models, and inspirations. They shape our futures and guide us toward our dreams. I'm excited to vote for transformational investments in our K-12 education system in our budget bill. Funding our schools is good for our communities, students, and our teachers!

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. AAPI people are the fastest-growing demographic in Minnesota - I’m committed to ensuring our state is inclusive for all Minnesotans.
