Friday, October 13, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone who came out and attended our District 63 town hall recently. Your active participation and engagement make our district better, strengthening the bonds of our community, and fuels our commitment to creating a brighter future together.

Driver’s Licenses for All is Now Law!

This year, The House DFL made it a priority to rectify a two-decade-long injustice that had denied individuals in Minnesota the opportunity to obtain driver's licenses. The absence of this right has presented significant challenges for tens of thousands of our fellow Minnesotans in accessing employment, education, and healthcare. Starting now, our neighbors, family, and friends can obtain a license, making our roads safer for everyone as they commute to work, transport their children to school, shop for groceries, or seek medical care.

If you are one of the estimated 81,000 people in Minnesota who are now eligible for a driver’s license with Driver’s Licenses for All (DL4All), be sure to have all of the required documents ready. You must have an appointment to apply - appointments are now available. Additional resources for translations into other languages are available with the virtual assistant. The driver's license manual is available in multiple languages on the Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Forms/Documents/Manuals page.

This past month I’ve had the pleasure of attending many events in our area. Here are some highlights:

I spent a beautiful Saturday morning at the annual Heats On! Grateful for Local 455 Local 539 and the PipeTrades members for volunteering their time and skill to make sure seniors and low-income families in our communities have safe and reliable heat for winter.

I attended a celebration the Minnesota Historical Society’s Huss gallery opening. The "Many Voices, Many Stories, One Place" exhibit explores the layered history of the people who have passed through Fort Snelling and the land Bdote.

Connecting Communities to the Capitol: Worker’s Rights

With the goal of deepening our understanding on key issues, I’ve been doing a deep dive every month into different areas of policy that impact our communities and our state. Once a month, I’ll pick an interesting topic and talk to experts, my legislative colleagues, advocates, and members of our community to provide a richer understanding and perspective on an issue. These will be conversations and interviews, filmed and posted to Facebook, as well as provide recommended articles, podcasts and books if you are interested in deepening your understanding on the topic.

This month, we’re going to dig deeper into the fight for workers rights. As many of you know, I worked with Amazon warehouse workers to pass the strongest warehouse worker safety bill in the country. I’m excited to sit down with people who were a part of that effort to endure that workers are safe and respected on the job.

Stay in Touch

Thank you for your time, energy, and all you do to make our community a great place for everyone.

Please reach out and let us know about events and meetings you’d like me to attend. And always reach out to me with your input and ideas, or if I can ever be of assistance. My email is rep.emma.greenman@house.mn.gov or you are always welcome to call me at the Capitol at 651-296-4200 and follow my Facebook page for updates.

It’s an honor and a privilege to be your State Representative. I'm very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish this year and look forward to the work we have ahead of us. Together we can create a stronger, brighter future for all Minnesotans!

Best,

Emma Greenman
