Representative Ben Bakeberg Named Legislator of Distinction by Minnesota School Boards Association

Saint Paul, MN – The Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) has honored State Representative Ben Bakeberg (R–Jordan) with its 2025 Legislative Achievement Award, naming him one of their Legislators of Distinction for his work during the 2025 legislative session.

Each year, MSBA recognizes state legislators who demonstrate a strong commitment to addressing school board concerns and advancing policies that support public education and local governance. Representative Bakeberg was selected for his leadership on key education finance initiatives and his consistent advocacy for school board priorities.

During the 2025 session, Representative Bakeberg authored two significant finance provisions: a 3% increase to the general education formula and an increase in Location Optional Revenue. He also led efforts to advance fund balance flexibility, including changes to the nutrition fund, and pushed for relief from unfunded mandates.

Recognizing the impact of growing costs and reduced flexibility on school budgets, Rep. Bakeberg worked closely with school board members to elevate their voices at the Capitol. His advocacy on student discipline reform and local control demonstrated a clear alignment with school district priorities across Minnesota.

“I’m incredibly grateful to receive this recognition from MSBA,” said Rep. Bakeberg. “As middle school principal, I’ve spent years working in schools alongside teachers, staff, and families, I understand the real challenges our districts face. This award reflects the work we’ve done together to move past politics and focus on practical solutions that support our students, strengthen local control, and get results where they’re needed most - in the classroom.”

“Representative Bakeberg’s thoughtful engagement with school board members and commitment to addressing real challenges in our public schools demonstrate the critical role legislators play in supporting strong local governance and student success across Minnesota,” said Denise Dittrich, MSBA Director of Government Relations.
