Legislative Update

What a great week it’s been back home in the district!

Summer always seems to fly by, but I’ve been soaking up every moment—whether it’s catching up with folks at local parades, or just running into neighbors around town. These everyday conversations and connections are the heart of what I love most about serving you. It’s a reminder of how strong, welcoming, and resilient our community really is!

From a day on the golf course supporting local law enforcement to meaningful conversations about where our state is headed, there’s been a lot going on—and I’m grateful to have you along for the journey. Let’s take a look at this week’s highlights!

Honored to Receive the MPPOA Legislator of the Year Award

1

Last month, I received the incredible honor of being named Legislator of the Year by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA).

To be recognized by the very people who suit up every day, who protect our communities with courage and conviction—it’s humbling beyond words. Before I ever stepped into the legislature, I wore the badge for more than 20 years. I’ve missed holidays, birthdays, and soccer games. I’ve driven into the unknown on a call. I’ve carried the weight and the quiet pride that comes with this job. And I carry all of that with me now as a legislator.

I didn’t run for office for recognition. I ran because I know what this work means—and I want to make sure those who serve are heard, respected, and supported. When the SRO law created confusion and kept officers out of schools, I knew we had to act. Because I’ve been that officer in the hallway. I know how much it matters. We worked across the aisle, put politics aside, and got it done.

This session wasn’t without heartbreak. The loss of Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, and Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth, still hits hard. I didn’t know them personally, but I wore the same patch. We answered the same calls. Naming the Burnsville Parkway Bridge in their honor was just one small way to keep their memory alive — but the real tribute is how we move forward, together.

To my colleagues, to the MPPOA, and most of all, to the officers across Minnesota—thank you. I see you. I honor you. And I’ll never stop fighting for you.

Connecting with Community: HOA Roundtable at Lakeville City Hall

1

Tuesday night was the kind of evening that gets things moving! Senator Zach Duckworth and I had the privilege of hosting a Homeowners Association Roundtable at Lakeville City Hall—and the room was buzzing with sharp questions, honest conversations, and a whole lot of people who care deeply about their community.

We had a strong lineup—leaders from the Attorney General’s Office, the Commerce Department, Mayor Luke Hellier, and a packed house of Avonlea residents who showed up ready to speak up and dig in. No scripted speeches, no political posturing—just real people tackling real issues together.

When folks come to the table with open minds and a shared purpose, good things happen. And that’s exactly what we saw. Thanks to everyone who joined us—this is how we make Lakeville even stronger. Let’s keep the momentum going!

?? Behind the Scenes: Filming PSAs with Charter/Spectrum

This week, I had the opportunity to team up with Charter/Spectrum to film a few public service announcements — and let me tell you, stepping in front of the camera was a new kind of adventure!

We covered some important topics, including the dangers of texting and driving and the importance of supporting our veterans and their mental health. These are issues I care deeply about, and I’m grateful for the chance to help raise awareness in this way.

I'll be sure to pass along the final PSA's once they’re ready for game time. Stay tuned!

Back on the Green for a Great Cause

There’s nothing like a good round of golf—especially when it’s for a great cause. I had the pleasure of attending the annual Birdies Fore Badges Golf Tournament, and let me tell you—it was one of the highlights of the summer. The weather was perfect, the course was sharp, and the company was even better.

It felt so good to get back out on the green with some great buddies, swing the clubs, and share a few laughs—all while showing our support for Burnsville’s law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders. This tournament is more than just a day of golf. It’s a way to honor and back the men and women who put their lives on the line every single day to keep our communities safe.

Big thanks to the organizers and everyone who came out to support the cause. Can’t wait to tee it up again next year!

Together, We Make This Community Strong!

As we continue moving through this beautiful Minnesota summer and head into fall, I want to thank you for staying engaged and sharing your stories with me. I truly love hearing your testimonials and learning how I can best serve our wonderful community—it’s one of the most rewarding parts of this job.

Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out. Whether it’s an email, a phone call, or just stopping to chat if you see me out and about in the district, I’m always happy to listen. Your voice matters, and I’m here to represent you.

Wishing you a safe and joyful summer!

Sincerely,

Representative Jeff Witte
