Members of Minnesota Asian Pacific Caucus send letter to US Census Bureau regarding AAPI misclassifications

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, Rep. Liz Lee led colleagues of the House and Senate Minnesota Asian Pacific (MAP) Caucus in sending a letter to US Census Bureau Director Robert L. Santos to express concerns about several misclassifications of several different Asian American ethnicities in 2020 Census data.

Rep. Liz Lee (DFL – Saint Paul) issued the following statement:

“As policymakers, we rely on accurate data to make good policy decisions for our communities. This oversight is a gross misclassification of Americans who have already been marginalized in multiple ways. We hope the Bureau will finally be receptive to making these corrections now rather than having to backpedal and clean up data later.”

The letter was also signed by Rep. Kaohly Her (DFL – Saint Paul), Sen. Susan Pha (DFL – Brooklyn Park), Rep. Samantha Vang (DFL – Brooklyn Center), Rep. Samantha Sencer-Mura (DFL – Minneapolis), Rep. Ethan Cha (DFL – Woodbury), and Sen. Foung Hawj (DFL – Saint Paul).
