Rep. Krista Knudsen Statement on Minnesota Supreme Court Ruling in Powerlifting Case
St. Paul, MN — Rep. Krista Knudsen, R-Lake Shore, issued the following statement regarding today’s Minnesota Supreme Court decision:
“This ruling is deeply disappointing and represents another step backward for women’s sports in Minnesota. Female athletes deserve fair competition and equal opportunities to succeed, and this decision undermines both. Allowing biological males to compete against women erases decades of progress and discourages young women who have worked hard to excel in their sport.
I have always been committed to standing up for our female athletes and protecting the integrity of girls’ sports. This is about fairness, safety, and ensuring that every girl has a chance to compete and succeed on a level playing field.”
Both House File 12 and House File 1233 would have addressed this issue, but were blocked by House Democrats. These bills remain ready for action when the House reconvenes on February 17, 2026.
