Legislative update

Friday, January 6, 2023

Dear Neighbor,

Greetings from the Capitol, where this week I was honored to perform my first oath of office in becoming a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

It’s difficult to put into words just how humbling it was to participate in the House’s swearing-in ceremony. I have an enormous sense of gratitude for the support I have received from people in our district. This is an immense responsibility to serve in the House and I am committed to doing all I can to advocate for the people back home who sent me to St. Paul.

The most important thing for me, in my heart, is to advocate for the best interests of my constituents and make sure they have a strong voice at the Capitol. It’s a big job and I welcome the challenge.

For instance, much of what happens this session will center on the state’s $18 billion surplus. I am adamant we return these over-collected tax dollars to the hardworking Minnesotans who were overtaxed in the first place. One of the very first bills I signed onto as a House member would fully eliminate state taxes on Social Security – and that’s only the start.

We’ll get into more of the details on tax relief and other issues as the session progresses. For now, I would like to share some informational links provided by the Minnesota House of Representatives to help you follow along from home:

Thanks again for the support and know I am hitting the ground running to do my best representing the people of our new District 6A. The best ways to reach me during the session are by calling (651) 296-0172 or by emailing rep.ben.davis@house.mn.gov. And, if you know of anyone who also may want to receive periodic email updates such as this from me, please share this message so they can sign up at this link.

Best regards,

Ben
