Legislative Update - March 1, 2024

Friday, March 1, 2024

Dear neighbor,

We just wrapped up another productive week at the Capitol. My colleagues and I continued working on policy bills aimed at improving the lives of working and middle class families.

February Economic Forecast

This week, state budget officials released a new economic forecast showing Minnesota’s economy to be growing and our budget outlook to be stable over the long term. Our economic outlook is a testament to the strength and resiliency of the people of Minnesota.

Democrats are committed to investing in vital infrastructure through a robust, statewide local jobs and projects package. This past fall, I joined my colleagues on the House Capital Investment Committee to visit 83 communities and examine over 200 projects. By fixing our roads and bridges, empowering innovation at our colleges and universities, protecting access to safe drinking water, ensuring first responders have the tools to answer the call during emergencies, and more, we can keep our communities vibrant and our state going strong.

You can take a closer look at the economic forecast here.

Property Tax Refund

With tax season underway, DFLers worked diligently to ensure Minnesota families have access to the tax credits and deductions they've earned, strengthening their financial foundation. We worked to simplify the Property Tax Refund, making sure every renter will receive the refund they deserve, one third of whom are seniors or people with disabilities.

You can qualify for the $204 average refund by visiting www.revenue.state.mn.us/property-tax-refund

MPCA Small Business Environmental Loan Program

If your small business is looking to reduce on-site air emissions, clean up contamination, or generate less waste be sure to apply for the MPCA Small Business Environmental Loan program. The program offers zero-interest loans up to $75,000 to tackle these high-impact projects. You can learn more and apply here.
