RELEASE: Rep. Larry Kraft Votes For, House Passes the PRO Act, Protecting Minnesotans’ Reproductive Freedom

Friday, January 20, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Yesterday, the Minnesota House passed the Protecting Reproductive Options (PRO) Act. The bill enshrines Minnesotans’ fundamental right to reproductive healthcare. Rep. Larry Kraft (DFL - St. Louis Park) voted for the legislation.

“Minnesotans deserve the right to decide when and whether to become a parent,” said Kraft. “Given the radical decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, stripping away rights women have had for half a century, I’m glad we’ve taken action to ensure Minnesotans have reproductive freedom.”

The bill protects Minnesotans’ right to contraception, the right to carry a pregnancy to term, and the right to abortion, and ensures the right to privacy for personal reproductive health decisions. It also prevents interference by anti-choice politicians who seek to enact or defend medically unnecessary barriers to comprehensive reproductive health care. The Senate is still moving the bill through its committees, and Gov. Walz has signaled he will sign the bill into law.
