RELEASE: Rep. Larry Kraft Introduces Bill to Fund Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue Improvements

Tuesday, March 21, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Yesterday, the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee held a public hearing on House File 2952, authored by Rep. Larry Kraft (DFL – Saint Louis Park). The bill invests $16.6 million to improve Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue in Saint Louis Park.

“We must fund critical infrastructure around our state with a focus on our environment and climate,” said Rep Kraft. “With a roundabout at a key intersection to improve traffic flow and reduce idling, traffic calming measures to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians, pullouts for bus transit, and new bike infrastructure, this project fits well within Saint Louis Park's and Hennepin County's long term vision around transportation and climate change.”

This project is regionally significant, considering both roadway corridors provide regional movement of goods and commerce, and local connections to homes, schools, places of worship, and parks. These roadways serve the entire northwest quadrant of the city, situated in a regional nexus of Minnetonka, Plymouth, Golden Valley, and Saint Louis Park, with around 60% of traffic from outside of Saint Louis Park.

Rep. Kraft was joined by Saint Louis Park Mayor Jake Spano, who testified in support of the bill.

Video of the bill presentation can be found here. The bill was laid over by the committee for further consideration. The Senate’s companion bill is moving through the committee process.
