Dearly Beloved (Neighbors),

We gathered yesterday in the House Transportation committee to discuss HF 717, my bipartisan legislation to honor the highly acclaimed, world-renowned and much beloved Minnesota artist known as Prince. The bill I'm carrying would rename the Chanhassen portion of Highway 5 after him.

The bill advanced out of committee unanimously and I’m excited to move forward with this memorial for this prolific artist and Minnesota icon. It has one more committee stop in the House and then onward to the House Floor for final passage! Minnesota Public Radio covered the hearing and you can read more here

Earlier this week, we took another bipartisan step forward in finishing the business of 2022 by approving nearly $1.9 billion in investments for local jobs and projects throughout the state.

I was glad to vote to support the bill, which will deliver $3,760,000 million to Carver County to help improve safety on Highway 18, known as 82nd Street West, from Bavaria Road to Highway 41. With an anticipated population growth of 49% in Carver County by 2040, our residents expect and deserve updates to the dated, dirt roadway to meet the needs of our developing region and our modern transportation needs. You can read more about the other projects we passed for the state here.

We also passed significant legislation to improve workplace protections for nursing moms, enhance penalties for catalytic converter theft and possession, and importantly, the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act

As we reach the halfway point of the 2023 legislative session, we’re wrapping up our committee work to finalize and pass bills. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or need any assistance.

Thank you for the honor of representing our Chanhassen and Chaska neighborhoods in the Minnesota House.

Have a great weekend,

Lucy Rehm
