Release: Rep. Lucy Rehm Votes for the Democracy for the People Act

Thursday, April 13, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Tonight, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed the Democracy for the People Act. The bill seeks to protect and strengthen the freedom to vote, reduce the influence of dark money and corporations in our politics, and ensure that our democracy is fair, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Minnesotans across the state.

Rep. Lucy Rehm (DFL – Chanhassen) is a co-author of the legislation and voted to support it.

“In 2022, with democracy squarely on the ballot, Minnesotans of every race, generation, region and background showed up to participate in democracy and to protect it. Minnesotans are sick and tired of dark money and bad actors influencing our elections,” said Rep. Rehm. “The people who elected us expect us to take meaningful action to protect, strengthen and expand our shared democracy, to ensure that all Minnesotans have the freedom to vote and have a say in the decisions that impact their lives. I’m proud to co-author this important package of legislation because democracy works best when everyone has the opportunity to participate and make their voice heard.”
