News Release
St. Paul, MN — Representative Bidal Duran is reminding Minnesotans that the state’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program will take effect on January 1, 2026.
The PFML program will provide most Minnesota workers with paid time off for qualifying life events, including:
The birth or adoption of a child
Serious health conditions for themselves or a family member
Certain military-related events
Eligible workers will be able to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave for their own medical needs and an additional 12 weeks for family care needs, with a combined maximum of 20 weeks per year.
“This program will impact families, workers, and employers across the state,” Duran said. “Whether you see this as a positive change or have concerns about how it will work, I encourage you to reach out to my office. Your feedback matters, and I want to make sure your voice is part of the conversation as this program gets closer to launching.”
Constituents can contact Rep. Duran’s office with questions or comments at rep.bidal.duran@house.mn.gov or by calling 651-296-4265.
