Statement from Rep. Bidal Duran on Minnesota Supreme Court Ruling
St. Paul – Representative Bidal Duran (R–Bemidji) released the following statement in response to Wednesday's Minnesota Supreme Court ruling regarding USA Powerlifting and transgender competition eligibility:
“This decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court is an insult to every woman and young girl who has fought for fairness and opportunity in athletics. It defies common sense to suggest that individuals born male should be allowed to compete against biological women, especially in strength-based competitions like powerlifting. This ruling ignores the biological realities that define fairness in athletics and undermines decades of hard-fought progress for women and girls. I stand firmly with the countless parents, athletes, and coaches who are outraged by this decision. We will continue fighting to restore common sense and fairness in sports, and I will support legislation to ensure that girls’ athletics in Minnesota remain for girls.”
Both House File 12 and House File 1233 were introduced by Republicans in the prior legislative session to provide clear protections for female athletes and ensure fairness in competition. These bills remain ready for consideration when the Legislature reconvenes this coming February.
