Legislative UpdateDear Neighbors, The 2026 legislative session officially started on Tuesday which means we are back in committees and floor sessions. This session I still am a member of the education, commerce, and capital investment committees. As this is not a budget year most bills we will be hearing are going to be policy and with a still tied house of 67-67 the bills that actually get to the floor will be bipartisan. House Republicans have 6 pillars that we will be a focusing on this session: 1. Stop the Fraud - Minnesotans are sick and tired of having their tax dollars taken by fraud. House Republicans will prioritize rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in state government and make sure that those who steal from taxpayers are held accountable.
2. Minnesota Affordable - Minnesotans have been struggling under the weight of crushing inflation caused by Democrats’ out-of-control spending and increasing taxes by $10 billion. Our goal is to make Minnesota affordable by repealing the things that hurt family budgets like Democrats’ automatic gas tax increase, delivery taxes, and other policies that drive up the costs of goods and services.
3. Make Minnesota Safe - House Republicans will work with law enforcement to make sure they have the resources they need to keep our communities safe and hold violent criminals responsible for their actions.
4. Raise Standards, Reduce Mandates - House Republicans will work to reduce the burdensome mandates Democrats have placed on school districts and work with local school boards to make sure they have the flexible funding they need to address their unique needs.
- House Republicans will get politics out of the classroom and work with local school districts to emphasize teaching the basics like reading, writing, and math.
5. Minnesota Tax Dollars for Minnesotans - Minnesotans expect their tax dollars to be spent for the benefit of Minnesotans who are here legally. We will work to repeal programs that provide free, taxpayer funded insurance, college tuition, and more for illegal immigrants.
6. Build for the Future - House Republicans will work to make it easier to maintain and improve our critical infrastructure and other projects through permitting reform, keeping standards high and removing unnecessary burdens to progress.
As we move forward this session, I remain committed to working across the aisle where we can find common ground while standing firm on these priorities. With a tied House, cooperation will be necessary to move legislation forward, but that also presents an opportunity to focus on practical, commonsense solutions that truly serve Minnesotans. My focus will remain on delivering results for the people of our district. It is an honor to represent you at the Capitol. Please continue to reach out with your questions, concerns, and ideas. I look forward to keeping you updated throughout the 2026 legislative session. |
