Dear friends and neighbors on the Iron Range, We’re still in a holding pattern as we wait for the special session to be officially called. While there’s been no formal announcement yet, it is guaranteed to be held soon, maybe even by the end of this week. As soon as we have more information, I will share updates. Memorial DayLast weekend, I enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate Memorial Day in our community. Senator Rob Farnsworth and I went to Eveleth and Chisholm to attend their services. It was nice to visit with the Motley family at the Eveleth service. Both programs had beautiful memorial services and local high school bands to perform in honor of our fallen heroes. I also attended the Forbes Riverside Chapel service, which reminded me of the many Sundays I spent there as a child. Their service included a speaker, live music, and a nice lunch. Following that, they read the names of all veterans who have been laid to rest in the Forbes and McDavitt cemeteries, which includes my father, who was an Air Force Veteran, SSGT Daniel Warwas. Thank you to the church and community for organizing and hosting this memorial service. |

St. Louis County Association of Townships MeetingI recently attended the St. Louis County Association of Townships (SLCAT) annual township officers meeting and dinner at the Cotton Community Center alongside Reps. Zeleznikar, Skraba, Farnsworth, and Commissioner Paul McDonald. This is a great way for local township officers to get information from state and county elected officials and vice-versa. I have been influenced by and worked closely with townships in recent years, which has been a great blessing. I appreciate the continued opportunity to interact with our townships and help them in any way that I can! ![]() MN DNRI had a great meeting with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Lands and Minerals Division director Joe Henderson. We discussed Financial Assurance for area mines, and specifically for NewRange Copper Nickel. The state has taken a proactive and well-informed approach in setting clear standards for environmental protection during both active mining and post-closure phases. This framework has also led to improvements in financial assurance requirements for taconite mines, which benefits Minnesota. I am excited to see NewRange move closer to final permitting and starting construction. ![]() Construction in Eveleth – FYIAs you know by now, there is a lot of construction going on in Eveleth on Highway 53.
