House votes to honor fallen firefighter

A stretch of state highway in Isanti County could honor a volunteer firefighter who lost his life on the job.

The House on Friday passed HF1636/SF1564*, sponsored by Rep. Brian Johnson (R-Cambridge) and Sen. Mark Koran (R-North Branch), that would designate a stretch of state Highway 65 as the “Chip A. Imker Memorial Highway.”

Imker was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Cambridge who was killed in a training accident in 2011 at the age of 35.

The bill now goes to Gov. Mark Dayton for his signature.
