Stretch of SE Minnesota highway could honor state trooper

A stretch of highway in Wabasha County may honor a former state trooper.

HF2999, sponsored by Rep. Barb Haley (R-Red Wing), would designate a portion of U.S. Highway 61 between Lake City and Wabasha as “Trooper Dale G. Roehrich Memorial Highway” in honor of a 33-year veteran of the Minnesota State Patrol.

Memorial signs would be authorized under the bill, and funds for the signs must come from non-state sources.

The House Transportation and Regional Governance Policy Committee approved the bill Monday and re-referred it to the House Transportation Finance Committee.

A companion, SF2775 sponsored by Sen. Mike Goggin (R-Red Wing), has been referred to the Senate Floor.
