Starting Line: Proposal puts onus on “no gun zone” property owners

At many private businesses you can find a decal or sign that reads, “This is a gun-free zone.” Some people think that this makes things safer. Others may counter that they’re less safe because they aren’t allowed to have their firearm for self-defense.

Rep. Jeremy Munson (R-Lake Crystal) takes the latter view. The New House Republican sponsors HF3051, which proposes to allow a civil course of action against a property owner who prohibits guns if it leads to the injury, or worse, of a lawful gun owner prevented from having their firearm for self-defense.
