House Passes Children & Families Supplemental Budget;

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Tonight, the Minnesota House passed the supplemental Children and Families budget as part of the Health and Human Services package. The bill delivers $10 million of emergency food support, modernizes childcare and crisis nursery licensing, funds forensic interview training, and appropriates funding to counties to administer SNAP benefits and help mitigate the negative local impacts of H.R.1, Trump’s Big Ugly Bill. The bill also contains important policy provisions to better support foster youth and foster families.

Rep. Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn (DFL - Eden Prairie) serves as DFL Chair of the Children and Families Committee.

“We did some good things, but we could have done so much more,” said Chair Kotyza-Witthuhn. “The committee heard many bills that would make life easier and more affordable for our children and families, but Republicans chose to play politics instead of serving Minnesotans. The provisions in this bill are only possible because of the partnership and hard work of the House and Senate DFL.

“Once we adjourn, we will all head back to our districts to reconnect with our neighbors and talk to them about the work we did. I fully expect those neighbors to share my frustration with what was left on the table.

“I will never give up on making Minnesota a better place to raise a family.”
