St. Paul, MN - State Representative John Huot (DFL - Rosemount) will serve as Speaker Pro Tempore of the Minnesota House of Representatives during the 2026 legislative session. In the absence of the Speaker, the Speaker Pro Tempore takes on the duties of managing the House Floor and ruling on legislative debate.
“I’m humbled and thrilled to serve as the ‘referee’ in the Minnesota House floor proceedings as Speaker Pro Tempore,” said Rep. Huot. “Working as a presiding officer alongside Speaker Demuth, shepherding bills and debate through the legislative process is an honor and wonderful opportunity to continue serving our state.”
“Representative Huot will make an incredible addition to our leadership team as he takes on the new role of Speaker Pro Tempore, especially in this period of a tied House,” said House DFL Leader Zack Stephenson (DFL-Coon Rapids). “His down-to-earth, can-do attitude, and partnerships he’s developed on the other side of the aisle with EMS will ensure fair debate, where all voices are listened to and respected.”
In addition to this leadership role, Rep. Huot will also continue serving as a committee member on the Commerce, Health Finance, and Taxes committees.
