Legislative Update - Halfway Through Session

Dear Neighbors,

We’re just over halfway through the legislative session, with our adjournment date of May 18 being here before you know it. It’s always a very busy and energizing time, and for me this year, it’s also bittersweet.

I want to end my tenure as your state representative strong, and I’ve been dedicating my time to issues I know are incredibly important to our community and the entire state.

For example, this week I presented my legislation providing funding to the Homeless Youth Act grants. When we invest in our youth, the return on investment is immense, but it's not about the dollar amount. It's about the purpose, and choosing to ensure our homeless youth are part of the conversation when we talk about investment.

You can watch my closing remarks in committee here.

I want to thank all the testifiers that shared their story and experiences. I have more bills next week - one relating to emergency shelters, and another on Safe Harbor. If you have experience with either of these and would like to share, please let me and my office know!

Homeless Day on the Hill

No matter your circumstances, everyone’s voice deserves to be heard at the Capitol. That’s especially true for the Minnesotans who are too often left out of the conversation - a message I carried with me during our recent Homeless Day on the Hill.

As I met with folks in the House Chamber, I couldn’t help but reflect on what we’ve been able to accomplish together in my 6 years as a State Representative - and the amount of work we still have left to do.

It’s crucial to remember that above all, no matter who is serving in this chamber, that this is YOUR House!

Thank you to everyone that joined us for this important day. Thank you for fighting the good fight. We have the power to end homelessness in Minnesota, and we’ll do it by working together.

Child Tax Credit Reminder

A reminder that Tax Day is April 15. If you’re still working on your 2025 taxes and have children, please don’t forget about the Child Tax Credit! It is NOT automatic. So far this year, more than 154,000 tax returns have claimed the Child Tax Credit, benefiting over 318,000 children across Minnesota. Families are receiving an average credit of $2,669.

The credit is estimated to reduce child poverty by up to a third in Minnesota, making it one of the most impactful investments DFLers protected amid federal cuts. Learn more about eligibility here
