St. Paul, MN - Today, the Minnesota House and Senate passed a package of legislation investing in regional infrastructure projects and funding good-paying local jobs throughout the state. Included in the legislation was funding for the City of Moorhead and surrounding communities - investments championed by State Representative Heather Keeler (DFL - Moorhead) on the final day of the 2026 Legislative Session.
“Time and again, I’ve fought to bring as many of my colleagues from both sides of the aisle up to our region to learn about our unique needs, and then to turn those visits into legislative accomplishments. When lawmakers in St. Paul learn more about Moorhead and the surrounding region, it translates into meaningful investments in our communities,” said Rep. Keeler. “I’m so grateful to end this legislative session in a way that funds the issues I care deeply about - quality higher education, accessible healthcare, and clean water. Most of all, I’m proud to leave behind $10 million for statewide emergency shelters, providing a safe and secure place for Minnesotans across the state.”
Investments championed by Rep. Keeler includes $10 million to the City of Moorhead for flood mitigation efforts, $10 million for Mahnomen Hospital, $5 million for West Central Regional Water, $1.87 million for the Clay County Non-secure Juvenile Facility, funding for local colleges and universities through the Higher Education Asset Preservation program, and $10 million for the statewide emergency shelter grants - of which 40% is required to go to Greater Minnesota.
