REP. PERRYMAN URGES DFL SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL RESOURCES OFFICER LAW FIX
ST. PAUL – With 44 Democrat lawmakers declaring that they do not support a fix to law that has left dozens of schools without school resources officers (SROs), State Representative Bernie Perryman, R-St. Augusta is urging those Democrats who remain undecided to join with Republicans in asking Governor Walz to call a special session and work together on a solution.
"I am very disappointed to hear that legislative Democrats are blocking a fix that will keep students and teachers safe," said Perryman. "Because of this new law, SROs are being pulled out of schools and students, staff, and teachers are less safe. We need to put the safety of students, staff, and teachers ahead of politics and fix this as soon as possible."
This new law takes away tools SROs can use to keep students and teachers safe. In response, over 40 law enforcement agencies have pulled SROs from schools across Minnesota, including St. Cloud School District 742.
