Legislative Update - Affordable Housing

Friday, March 20, 2026

Dear Neighbors,

Eid Mubarak to our Muslim neighbors! It was another busy week as I work to pass legislation that supports Minnesotans and makes life more affordable. Let’s get into it.

Manufactured Housing Bill - Fighting for Affordability and against Corporate Greed

  • I was proud to stand with manufactured housing residents and a bipartisan group of Senate colleagues before the Senate Commerce Committee passed the Manufactured Home Park Resident Bill of Rights!
  • This bill is about choosing who we are here to represent; working class Minnesotans, or faceless national private equity corporations. I know who I stand with! Unfortunately, in the House, the bill has failed each of the past two years on party-line votes. I will keep working to persuade my Republican colleagues to join the side of Minnesotans on this important issue!
  • Watch my remarks on this urgently needed bill to improve affordability here.

Bills to Lower Property Taxes - Helping You Stay in Your Home

  • I presented two bills to lower property taxes in the Taxes Committee!
  • One would create a task force to look at property tax reform, a bill that was highlighted by KSTP.
  • The second bill would simplify filing the homestead property tax refund and increase the refund for most taxpayers in the process. A big shoutout to my constituent Sharon who brought the idea for this bill to me!
  • These are common sense policies we can implement to help Minnesotans on fixed incomes stay in their homes.

Restricting Sale of Live Dogs and Cats Passes - Protecting our Best Friends

  • My bill to restrict the sale of live dogs and cats passed out of the Commerce Committee last week!
  • This bill protects consumers and prevents animal cruelty by slowly ending the practice while ensuring that we don’t hurt current businesses that currently engage in this practice in an ethical manner.
  • Watch the discussion on this bill here!
