Tuesday, August 5, 2025

St. Paul, MN  — The League of Minnesota Cities has named Rep. Andrew Myers (R–Tonka Bay) a 2025 Legislator of Distinction, recognizing his exemplary leadership and commitment to advancing policies that support and empower Minnesota’s cities. Representing eleven cities in the Lake Minnetonka area of Hennepin County, Rep. Myers has consistently prioritized the voices and priorities of suburban communities at the Capitol.

This marks the second consecutive year that Rep. Myers has received the Legislator of Distinction Award, an honor presented annually to lawmakers who are accessible, responsive, and collaborative in their approach to strengthening state and local partnerships. Honorees are nominated by city officials and League staff based on their engagement with municipal leaders and support for legislation that reflects the diverse needs of Minnesota’s cities.

As co-chair of the Suburban Solutions Caucus, Rep. Myers has helped lead efforts to craft practical, community-based solutions to the pressing issues facing suburban areas. His work on the House Housing Committee has been especially impactful. Myers was commended for his consistent outreach to city leaders, local government staff, and League of Minnesota Cities representatives to ensure suburban perspectives were front and center on matters such as housing availability, zoning reform, and land use planning.

“Rep. Myers has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to listening to and working with local leaders across the political spectrum,” said a League spokesperson. “His collaborative style, paired with a deep understanding of the challenges cities face, makes him a strong ally for local governments and a model legislator.”

During the 2025 session, Rep. Myers played a key role in shaping legislation aimed at improving housing affordability and increasing local flexibility in zoning decisions. His leadership helped advance reforms that address the growing need for diverse housing options while preserving local control and promoting thoughtful community development.

In accepting the award, Rep. Myers emphasized the importance of partnerships between state and local governments and reaffirmed his focus on pragmatic, people-centered policymaking:

“I’m grateful to receive this recognition from the League of Minnesota Cities,” said Rep. Myers. “Suburban communities face real challenges—whether it's housing, infrastructure, or economic growth—and the most effective solutions come from listening, working together, and focusing on what actually works. I’ll continue to create policies that reflect the voices of suburban families and collaborate closely with local leaders to make sure our communities are heard and supported at the Capitol.”
