Interim Update

I hope you and your family had a great Fourth of July weekend. My family and I were grateful for the chance to spend time together, enjoy the summer weather, and take part in the celebrations that make this time of year so special in our communities. As we move further into summer, I wanted to share a few updates from the Capitol and the work I’m continuing on behalf of our district.

Retirement of Chief Gregg Pederson 

I'd like to start off by recognizing Fire Chief Gregg Pederson on his retirement and thank him for his years of service to our community. Fire chiefs carry a tremendous responsibility, not only in responding to emergencies, but in leading the men and women who answer those calls day and night. Chief Pederson’s commitment to public safety and service has made a lasting difference, and I wish him and his family all the best in this next chapter.

Supporting local businesses access to the trails through E-Bikes

Local businesses help make our communities vibrant, and one of the best ways to support them is by making it easier for residents and visitors to reach them. That includes ensuring people using e-bikes have reasonable access to our trail systems and the shops, restaurants, and small businesses along the way. As more families, seniors, commuters, and visitors choose e-bikes for recreation and transportation, we should make sure our local rules keep pace while still protecting safety and preserving the character of our trails.

Women’s PGA Event in Chaska

I was proud to co-author HF 3861, bipartisan legislation to help bring the 2029 Ryder Cup to Minnesota and support the jobs, tourism, and business opportunities that come with hosting a major international sporting event.

I also had the chance to attend the women’s PGA event in Chaska and see some of the best women golfers in the world compete right here in our state. Events like this are a great reminder of what Minnesota has to offer, from world-class venues to strong local businesses ready to welcome visitors from across the country and around the world.

It's Not Just Great Golf

This is about more than one tournament. It’s about supporting women in sports, showcasing our communities, and building partnerships that bring more economic opportunity to Minnesota. I was happy to help lead these efforts and will continue looking for ways to make our state a place where major events, local businesses, and families can all thrive.

Community Safety

During the interim, I’m continuing to bring people together to address school and community safety in a thoughtful, practical way. This session, I worked hard to get my social media threat reporting bill passed in the House. While it unfortunately failed to advance in the Senate, the need for this work has not gone away.

Parents, local leaders, law enforcement, school officials, and community members all have an important role to play in keeping our kids and neighborhoods safe. I’m grateful for people like Michael Roaldi, an Annunciation parent, who continue to reach out and help move these conversations forward. Through the Suburban Solutions Caucus, we’ll continue working on layered approaches to school and community safety that focus on prevention, response, communication, and making sure warning signs are taken seriously.

As always, please continue to reach out as we work to address the priorities of our district. That includes creating solutions for affordable childcare, lowering property taxes, fighting fraud, building stronger schools, protecting clean water, expanding access to mental health resources, and continuing to focus on service over politics.
