Education Update

Dear Educators, School Board Members, and Superintendents,

As August approaches and classrooms begin to fill again, I want to take a moment to reach out and say something I don’t think gets said enough at the Capitol: thank you.

The conversations I’ve had with teachers, administrators, and school board members across our district have directly shaped the bipartisan work I’ve done through the Suburban Solutions Caucus in St. Paul. Your firsthand perspectives aren’t background noise. They’re the foundation of meaningful legislation.

Because you spoke up, I worked to:

Secure funding for special education to better serve students with the greatest needs
Pass school safety and mental health funding to support students and staff
Advance meaningful pension legislation to protect the retirement security teachers have earned
Fight for recruitment and retention initiatives to keep great teachers in our classrooms
Bring legislators directly into schools to see firsthand what teachers and students need every day

But there’s more work to do. Lower class sizes, flexible funding, competitive compensation, and sustainable pensions remain priorities, and I need to keep hearing from you so I can continue fighting for them effectively.

As this school year begins, I’m asking you to continue reaching out. Tell me what’s working, what isn’t, and what your students and staff need most. Schedule a time for me to visit your school or classroom. Invite me to a board meeting. Send me an email. Your perspective shapes policy in ways that no study or report ever can.

Your voice has made a difference. Please don’t stop using it.

Sincerely,

Representative Andrew Myers

House District 45A
