The House Supplemental Budget Proposals

Friday, April 29, 2022
Rep. Nelson

Neighbors,

This has been an incredibly busy week in the Minnesota House, with much of our work focused on passing our initial proposals in legislative issues areas off the House floor. The bills we’re passing are very different from their counterparts in the Senate, meaning that the road ahead will see these pieces of legislation going into bipartisan conference committees of House and Senate members where a consensus will then be reached.

For my part, as chair of the House State Government Finance and Elections Committee, my work was included in legislation that passed off the floor on Tuesday after a long debate.

Minnesotans deserve a modern state government that is responsive to their needs, transparent in its actions, and protects the elections system that has consistently made our state a leader in voter turnout. Passing this bill will help build a state government all Minnesotans can take part in. You can read more about what was included in our bill below.

Another committee I serve on is the House Transportation Finance and Policy Committee, where we prioritized making all modes of transportation more safe, improving public transit, creating more efficiency in Minnesota’s Driver Vehicle Services, and addressing the fact that transportation is one of the leading contributors to the climate crisis. We were able to pass this proposal off the House floor on Tuesday as well.

Other key areas we’ve passed legislation on this week include our proposals for VeteransAgriculture, Housing, BroadbandLegacyEducation, and the Environment. Today, we’re debating our Public Safety, Judiciary, and Higher Education bills on the House floor.

Things will be moving quickly in our final month of the legislative session, but I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop of what we’re working on, and please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments you may have.

You can reach me through email (rep.michael.nelson@house.mn) or phone (651-296-3751). It’s an honor to serve our community in the Minnesota House, and I appreciate hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Rep. Michael V. Nelson
