Rochester, Minn – Friday, authorities responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Stewartville High School in Stewartville, Minnesota, a community just south of Rochester. One student was injured.
The DFL Minnesota Legislative Rochester Delegation released the following statement:
“This morning, another community was left forever changed by gun violence. We’re grateful to local law enforcement for a swift response and are thankful that a greater threat is not posed to the school at large. However, this is yet another chilling example of the threat our students feel every single day. High schoolers should be focused on things like exams and how they’re going to spend winter break – not what to do in an active shooter situation.
Our hearts are with the student who was injured and their family as they experience the unimaginable. We stand ready as legislators to pass common sense gun legislation that research has shown will curb gun violence in Minnesota. Our communities cannot afford for us to wait any longer – we must unify to take swift and decisive action. Our children deserve more than partisan divide costing lives – it’s time for our GOP colleagues to join us, for them.”
The DFL Minnesota Legislative Rochester Delegation includes Rep. Tina Liebling (DFL – Rochester), Rep. Andy Smith (DFL – Rochester), Rep. Kim Hicks (DFL – Rochester), and Sen. Liz Boldon (DFL – Rochester).
