Legislative Update (June 25, 2015)

Thursday, June 25, 2015

Neighbors,

We officially adjourned our 2015 legislative session in the early morning of Saturday, June 13th, and Governor Dayton has now signed our complete budget for the next biennium.

In special session, most of our bills remained unchanged from the original versions, which were passed in mid-May – a testament to our hard work to propose bipartisan legislation that put Minnesotans first. Our final budget increased education spending by an average of $380 per pupil, without raising your taxes. It also implemented cost-saving measures for programs statewide, and expanded business opportunities in our state. I’m proud of our hard work to slow the growth of government while continuing to provide the vital services that families in our district depend on.

As we approach the Fourth of July weekend and prepare to celebrate our nation’s independence, I hope that you and your family will consider attending one of our local celebrations. The Coon Rapids Fourth of July celebration is at a new location this year! Events will be occur at the Coon Rapids Ice Center throughout the weekend, including a parade at 6:00pm on Thursday, July 2nd followed by live music, a car show at 5:00pm on Friday, June 3rd, and a beanbag tournament at 12:30pm on Saturday, July 4th. The celebrations will finish in a spectacular fireworks show at 10:00pm on July 4th. You can see more details and the calendar of events here. I hope to see many of you there!

The 20th Annual Andover Family Fun Fest will be held on July 10th and 11th. It includes a parade, 5K Fun Run/Walk, demonstrations from the K9 unit, a street dance, and a fireworks show. It also includes many fun activities for our youngest residents! This great event is a good way to connect with your neighbors and enjoy the summer weather. Full details can be found here.

As I spend more time in our community throughout the interim, please stay in touch to share your thoughts and ideas for our 2016 legislative session. You can reach me via phone at (651) 296-5813, or via email at rep.peggy.scott@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Rep. Peggy Scott
