Legislative Update (March 17, 2017)

Friday, March 17, 2017
Dear Neighbors,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We should have nice weather this weekend to enjoy this fun holiday. Have fun, and be safe!

Health Care Legislation

On Monday, we passed a bill to try and reduce health care premiums. Obamacare has hurt Minnesotans around the state, and the passage of this bill, HF5, is a way to reverse those ill effects by potentially providing a 17-18 percent premium reduction. This is an important step that could lower costs and stabilize the individual market in our state.

Girl Scout Visit

This week, Girl Scouts from my district and Rep. Dennis Smith’s district came to the Capitol to work on their service project. I loved hearing about their desire to help and serve their community. Thanks for stopping by, girls!

Transportation Issue

In the Civil Law Committee, we heard testimony from the Department of Transportation. The department has refused to turn over important documents relating to $105 million that was to be spent. Despite data practices requests dating back to October of last year, the department is refusing to comply. The taxpayers have a right to know how these funds are being spent, and I’ll continue to work to make our state agencies more transparent and responsive to the public.
