Legislative Update (April 13, 2017)

Thursday, April 13, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

I want to wish you and your family a Happy Easter! It’s a time of year to spend time with family and friends to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Have a safe, enjoyable holiday!

Health Care Update

In January, we passed relief for Minnesotans buying insurance on the individual market. Around 90,000 residents will see a 25% premium rebate, lessening the impact of skyrocketing insurance costs. Those who qualified will start to see this rebate in April for May premiums. I was proud to vote for the legislation as a short-term fix to Minnesota’s health insurance crisis.

Veterans Tax Exemption

Thanks to bipartisan legislation we passed last year, retired Minnesota veterans are now eligible for a new tax exemption. I want to make sure vets in our area are aware they’re eligible as they file their taxes. I was proud to vote for this bill, and am happy to see it help our local heroes!

Important Events

I want to put a couple events on your radar. April 27-30 is the Coon Rapids Ice Fantasy Skating show at the Coon Rapids Ice Center. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors (children four and under are free!). If you need more information, please click here.

To celebrate Arbor Day, Coon Rapids is holding their annual tree sale. Orders must be placed by Wednesday, April 26, with pick-up on Friday, May 5. Feel free to click here if you want to find out more.

On Saturday, April 29, Coon Rapids is having a Drug Take Back Event. From 10am-2pm, residents can bring unused prescriptions to the police department for safe disposal. The proper disposal of dangerous medications is a step in fighting drug addiction, and helps ensure these drugs aren’t accessible to our kids. If you have an unused prescription, please consider bringing it in.

Again, I hope you and your family have a great Easter holiday.

Enjoy your weekend,

Peggy
