Legislative Update (July 2, 2018)

Monday, July 2, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

Independence Day

Happy Fourth of July! During the long holiday week and weekend, take a second to remember what our independence means, and how grateful we are to live in our great nation. Have a fun Independence Day, and be safe!

This time of year, I think about a speech from Abraham Lincoln where he said the following:

"I have never had a feeling, politically, that did not spring from the Declaration of Independence that all should have an equal chance…This is the sentiment embodied in the Declaration of Independence…I would rather be assassinated on this spot than surrender it."

Around Town

The midweek holiday means festivities are getting underway today for the Coon Rapids 4th of July Celebration! I love this event each year. A carnival, fireworks, the parade, and all the other events make this a great chance to bring the family and celebrate our nation! Here’s a link to the full schedule over the next couple days.

And, once we’ve wrapped the celebration in Coon Rapids, we can start looking forward to the Andover Family Fun Fest, July 13-14! We’re so fortunate to have these great festivals to bring our communities closer together. Feel free to click here for more info on the Andover Family Fun Fest.

Child Support Task Force

Last week, we held a meeting of the Child Support Task Force. This is a complicated issue area with lots of moving parts, but we’re working to improve child support guidelines. It’s our hope to make this process just a little easier for those having to navigate it by looking to right-size child support orders. I feel like we’ve made progress over the last couple years, and I look forward to seeing what we do next.

Please Contact Me

Even though we’re out of session, I’d still like to hear from you with any ways I can be of service. Feel free to call or email my office and I’ll get right back to you.

Have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day!

Peggy
