Legislative Update (Feb. 23, 2015)

Monday, February 23, 2015

Friends,

It was another busy week at the Capitol as we work hard to make government work for you.

Disappointing MNsure Audit

Over the past year, many of you have spoken to me about the frustrating process you have been through as you tried to enroll in health insurance through the state’s exchange, MNsure. On Tuesday, the Office of the Legislative Auditor released their long-awaited comprehensive audit of MNsure, and identified several failures in the program. Not only did MNsure fail to meet its insurance goals, but customers experienced a more than four hour enrollment process, inadequate customer service, and a failure of leadership. Overall, the Legislative Auditor concluded that “MNsure’s failures outweighed its achievements.”

My colleagues and I are working hard to improve access, affordability, and transparency in health insurance by introducing bills that will help us correct many of the errors seen in MNsure. I look forward to discussing these proposals with my colleagues.

Protecting Your Data

I was proud to stand with my Senate colleagues and a bipartisan coalition of students and professionals as we explained the necessity for adding digital data to the list of items protected from unreasonable search and seizure. I believe that if the Constitution were written today, the Founding Fathers would have been sure to include this deeply personal method of communication to the protections listed under the Fourth Amendment. I am excited to present this amendment to my colleagues and to you, the voters.

You can read about the press conference here.

Protecting Your Family

As always, one of my top priorities is ensuring that you and your family stay safe at home and in our community. You can ensure that your property is protected by keeping valuable items out of your vehicle and making certain that you remove your garage door opener from your vehicle or place it out of view for anyone that may pass by your vehicle. In January, there were 17 incidents of theft from vehicle in Coon Rapids. With your vigilance, we can reduce that number.

I am here to serve you and your family. Please stay in touch to discuss your thoughts on legislation and our community. You can schedule an appointment to meet with me in Saint Paul by calling my Legislative Assistant at (651) 296-5813, or email me to share your thoughts directly at rep.peggy.scott@house.mn. Make sure that your friends and family are up-to-date by encouraging them to sign up for my email updates here.

Sincerely,

Rep. Peggy Scott
