House Capital Investment Committee To Begin Northeast Minnesota Bonding Tour

Saint Paul, MN - Next week, Co-Chair Mary Franson and members of the House Capital Investment Committee will begin a three-day bonding tour of Northeast Minnesota to review proposed infrastructure projects. Lawmakers will travel through multiple counties to see firsthand the needs of local communities and gather input for the next bonding bill.

The tour will include stops such as:

  • Pine County – Pine City Wastewater Treatment Pond System, Moose Lake Inflow and Infiltration Reduction

  • Carlton County – Cloquet Area Fire District, Carlton County Transfer Station, Jay Cooke State Park

  • St. Louis County (Duluth area) – Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, St. Louis County Courthouse, Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, Great Lakes Aquarium

  • St. Louis County (Iron Range) – Virginia City Hall, Eveleth Wastewater Treatment Facility, Hibbing City Hall, Mesabi Trail Pedestrian Bridge, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame

  • Lake County – Split Rock State Park, Silver Bay City Center Park and Amphitheater

  • Cook County – Grand Marais Wastewater Treatment Plant

  • Koochiching County – International Falls Water Treatment Facility

“These tours are an important way for lawmakers to see the projects and hear directly from local leaders,” Co-Chair Franson said. “Seeing these sites in person helps us understand community needs and make informed decisions about how to invest taxpayer dollars responsibly.”

Input gathered during these site visits helps lawmakers understand the needs of communities across the state and will guide the committee’s bonding recommendations for the upcoming legislative session. This tour is the second in a series of statewide visits that will continue in the months ahead, as the Capital Investment Committee travels to other regions to review projects, listen to local leaders, and prepare a bonding bill that reflects the priorities of Minnesotans.
