Legislative UpdateDear Friends and Neighbors, Spring has officially clocked in—and not a moment too soon! After months of unpredictable weather (and the occasional snowflake trying to crash the party), the sun is finally making a steady appearance, and I, for one, am here for it. The tulips are waking up and soon we will see the blossoming beautiful color, the birds are singing, and even my coffee seems to taste a bit sunnier these days. This past week back home in the district has been nothing short of energizing. Whether it was chatting with neighbors, meeting with local leaders, or just enjoying that fresh spring air, it reminded me why I love this community so much. Now I’m heading back to the Capitol refreshed, refocused, and ready to tackle the challenges ahead. We’ve still got important work to do, and I’m committed to making sure we finish this session on a high note—with solutions that reflect the values and voices of the people we serve. Let’s keep the momentum going!
He Is Risen—Easter Blessings to You and Yours![]() As we celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my heart is full of gratitude and hope. Easter is more than just a day on the calendar—it is the cornerstone of our faith, the triumph of life over death, and the ultimate reminder of God's endless grace. As an Irishman and a Christian, I hold this season close. It echoes the joy of springtime in the Emerald Isle, where after a long winter, the land begins to bloom again—just as our souls are renewed by the miracle of Easter morning. In a world full of uncertainty, the empty tomb stands as a steadfast promise: that light always overcomes darkness, that love wins, and that our Redeemer lives. May that truth fill your heart with peace and joy. I pray that this Easter brings you time with family, moments of quiet reflection, and a renewed spirit. May we all walk forward with the boldness of resurrection faith and the humility of those saved by grace. Wishing you a blessed and joyful Easter. He is risen—He is risen indeed!
Making Waves for Clean Water!![]() Here’s something to celebrate: thanks to strong bipartisan teamwork, we’ve officially passed the 2025-26 Legacy finance and policy committee budget! It’s a win not just for the legislature—but for every Minnesotan who values our beautiful lakes, rivers, and streams. Did you know that 33% of the sales tax revenue from the Legacy amendment goes straight into the Clean Water Fund? These dollars are laser-focused on protecting, enhancing, and restoring water quality across our state—and at least 5% is specifically dedicated to protecting our drinking water sources. That’s a big deal! This budget is proof that when we set politics aside and roll up our sleeves, we can get real results. I’m incredibly proud of the thoughtful work from both my Republican and Democrat colleagues. Cheers to clean water, collaboration, and commonsense solutions that benefit us all!
Honoring Our Heroes on the Hill![]() Last Wednesday, we had the incredible honor of celebrating our military heroes here at the Capitol—a day I won’t soon forget. From the moment the rotunda filled with veterans, service members, families, and supporters, there was an undeniable sense of reverence, gratitude, and unity. It was a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy each day have been paid for with tremendous courage and sacrifice. Meeting and shaking hands with these brave men and women—hearing their stories, seeing their quiet strength—left me humbled and inspired. Their service didn’t stop when the uniform came off. They continue to lead in our communities, stand up for one another, and remind us all of what it means to serve something greater than ourselves. To every veteran and military family: thank you. Thank you for your courage, your resilience, and your unwavering love for this country. We see you, we honor you, and we are committed to fighting for you—just as you have fought for us. Let us never take your sacrifice for granted. ![]()
Looking Ahead!I hope your Easter weekend is filled with sunshine, chocolate bunnies, and sweet moments with the ones you love. A little warm weather and time with family are just what we all need before heading back to the Capitol grind! Come Monday, I’ll be hopping back into action—refreshed, recharged, and ready to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to tackle the big stuff. We've got important work ahead, and I’m honored to be your voice in St. Paul as we push to make Minnesota an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. As always, thank you for your continued support—it means the world. Let’s keep working together to build something great! With gratitude and good cheer, Rep. Joe McDonald Minnesota House of Representatives, District 29A |
