Rep. O'Driscoll Legislative Update

Friday, January 6, 2023

Greetings,

Happy snowy New Year! From time to time, residents or their loved ones forget about a bank account or other property that eventually falls into custody of the State of Minnesota. Read on to see how you can start the new year right and see if the State is holding some of your assets.

DO YOU OR YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE UNCLAIMED PROPERTY?

Each year, the Minnesota Department of Commerce receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property from businesses and organizations that have lost contact with the owners. The Department is responsible for safeguarding the funds or property until claimed by the rightful owners or heirs. This includes dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance claim payments, and more.

To date, more than $650 million has been returned to Minnesotans and the heirs thanks to this program.

Visit https://minnesota.findyourunclaimedproperty.com/, type in your last name, and see if you have an unexpected windfall to collect!

2023 SESSION BEGINS

Here at the State Capitol, the accumulating snowfall did not alter the opening of the 2023 legislative session in any way as lawmakers are now back to work. As required by our Constitution, the Minnesota House of Representatives reconvened at Noon on Tuesday. Just like the last biennium, the House will have 70 members of the DFL and 64 Republicans over the next two years. It’s my hope that we can all work together to get things accomplished for Minnesotans.

NEW COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

I was pleased to learn that I will serve as the Republican Lead on the Minnesota House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee for the next two years and look forward to addressing business activity within the State as well as finding some common-sense solutions that will help Minnesota’s consumers.

I’ll also serve on the Property Tax Division and the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement.

KEEP IN TOUCH

As always I'm continuing to support constituent needs. Feel free to contact me anytime at rep.tim.odriscoll@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-7808. Please know that these updates will also continue again this session as they have in the past. I look forward to hearing from you!

Be well,

Tim
