Greetings,
The Minnesota House has continued moving individual bills off the floor, nearly all of them in strong bipartisan – if not unanimous – fashion.
ANTI-GROOMING BILL APPROVED
Legislation designed to stop grooming in Minnesota schools was approved by the House this week. The bill strengthens protection for students against sexual grooming by providing clear field trip supervision rules, improving mandatory reporting and mandated reporter training to include grooming, and creating a new felony penalty for grooming. It also allows grooming of children and youth to become a more chargeable and recognizable offense.
AI NUDIFICATION LANGUAGE PASSES
The Minnesota House has passed a bill to ban apps and websites that create fake, sexualized pictures of individuals, so a user would be unable to “nudify” an image or video. It also prohibits advertising or promoting a service that produces nudification.
SOCIAL MEDIA BILL HEADS TO HOUSE FLOOR
Legislation that would help ensure children are protected from social media will soon receive a full floor debate. The bill would require social media platforms to use age-estimation technology to terminate children’s accounts (if 15 and under) if no verifiable parental consent is given. It would also prohibit the use of addictive features in the accounts of minors who do obtain parental consent to have an account, and it would prohibit targeted content or advertising for minors in Minnesota. Social media platforms would also need to verify kids’ ages using their current technology to estimate age.
