Schomacker Responds to Housing Stabilization Services Fraud Investigation
St. Paul, MN - [07.17.2025] - Following recent federal raids and ongoing investigations into alleged widespread fraud in Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services program, Representative Joe Schomacker (R–Luverne), Republican Lead on the House Human Services Finance and Policy Committee, issued the following statement:
"Once again, Governor Walz and his political cronies at the Department of Human Services attempt to distract the public from their failures by shifting the conversation to Federal spending. State funded political activism and talking points have no place when millions of taxpayer dollars are being defrauded. I am thankful that the US Attorney's office can clean up the mess the department and this administration have made."
The Housing Stabilization Services program, designed to help vulnerable Minnesotans access housing support, has seen explosive growth and is now under federal investigation for suspected large-scale fraud and abuse. Over $300 million has been paid out to providers since 2020 - far exceeding original cost projections of roughly $12 million.
