Statement from Rep. Ron Kresha on Governor Dayton signing child protection law, HF8

Tuesday, March 17, 2015
ST. PAUL, MN—Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Ron Kresha, R-Little Falls, issued the following statement regarding Governor Dayton's signing of House File 8, a bill chief-authored by Rep. Kresha which passed unanimously in the House 130-0 and in the Senate 60-0. The bill places child safety as the first priority in making child protection decisions, and repeals a provision passed in 2013 that barred the consideration of screened-out reports by child protection workers. Rep. Kresha serves as the House Republican member of the Governor's Task Force on the Protection of Children, which was formed last fall.

"I'm grateful to Governor Dayton, as well as my colleagues in the House and Senate for their unanimous support of House File 8. This bill is an important first step toward improving our child protection system and ensuring we're protecting Minnesota children. I look forward to working further with my colleagues Senator Sheran, Senator Rosen, and Representative Mullery to build on these first steps in child protection."
