RELEASE: Rep. Josh Heintzeman Statement on California Cars Standard Rulemaking

Tuesday, January 19, 2021

ST. PAUL, MN – Rep. Josh Heintzeman, R-Nisswa, Republican Lead on the House Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee, issued the following statement regarding the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s (MPCA) intention to adopt the California Cars Standard through the administrative rulemaking process. This morning, the MPCA is holding its first public information session regarding the mandate.

“At a time when families are struggling because of financial losses from the pandemic, the Walz administration is seeking to bypass the legislature and approve California-style emissions standards that will make vehicles more expensive and harm thousands of Minnesotans that are employed at car dealerships across the state,” said Rep. Heintzeman. “The MPCA should not be taking orders from bureaucrats in California—the state with the dirtiest air in the nation. Minnesotans deserve a voice in this process and these standards should be rejected.”
