Legislative Update from Rep. Josh Heintzeman

Monday, April 11, 2022

Happy Easter!

As we head into this Holy Week, I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you and your family a joyful celebration of the risen Christ. We always look forward to Easter with friends and family and hope you are able to enjoy time with your loved ones as well. Also, if you’re traveling over the weekend, please stay safe on the roads!

Committee Work Ends

The third and final committee deadline was last Friday. This means that the House Democrat majority’s omnibus finance and policy bills have cleared their respective committees. Votes on each of these bills by the House are expected in the weeks ahead as they continue their way through the legislative process.

I will plan to update you on these bills as they come to the House Floor for votes.

While I will have a deeper dive on these bills soon, I nevertheless wanted to pass along that House Democrats are proposing $21 in new spending for every $1 of tax cuts.

Inflation is at the highest levels we’ve seen in more than 40 years, and with state government sitting on more than $10 billion in budget surplus and federal COVID relief aid, it is unacceptable that Democrats want to dramatically grow government instead of returning the surplus.

That is why I have been pushing all session to give the surplus back to those that were overtaxed and will continue advocating for meaningful and permanent tax relief as the session continues.
