Rep. Heintzeman Statement on Minnesota Supreme Court Ruling
St. Paul – Representative Josh Heintzeman (R-Nisswa) released the following statement in response to this morning’s Minnesota Supreme Court ruling:
“This ruling compromises the safety, the integrity, and the very purpose of women’s athletics. It’s flat-out ridiculous to suggest that preventing a biological male from competing against a female, especially in strength-based sports like powerlifting, is a violation of their human rights. The only rights being violated here are those Title IX was designed to protect. For decades, women and girls fought for fair opportunities. Today’s decision undermines those hard-won protections and puts fairness and safety at risk for female athletes across Minnesota.”
Both House File 12 and House File 1233 were introduced by Republicans in the prior legislative session to provide clear protections for female athletes and ensure fairness in competition. These bills remain ready for consideration when the Legislature reconvenes this coming February.
