Rep. Heintzeman Calls for Fiscal Responsibility Following Latest Budget Forecast
St. Paul – Representative Josh Heintzeman (R-Nisswa) issued the following statement regarding Thursday’s state budget forecast:
“While the short-term surplus looks fine on paper, today’s numbers reveal a far more troubling reality. Minnesota is on track for a $3 billion deficit in 2028-29 and more than $5 billion if the modest surplus is spent. That is the direct result of the massive spending spree and tax hikes pushed through when Democrats controlled state government.”
Heintzeman emphasized the need for a return to fiscal responsibility:
“Minnesotans are already feeling the consequences of higher taxes and rising costs. We need to get our budget back on track, stop the fraud that is draining critical resources, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely. Republicans are ready to do that work.”
The updated February forecast will guide supplemental budget decisions during the 2026 session.
